10 Beauty Insider Tips from Jessica Concannon behind Westmount Fashionista

1. What are your makeup staples?

My makeup staples are pretty basic, I stick to a few high quality basics that are easy to use and are very gentile on my skin. I love Jane Iredale’s pressed powder for flawless all over coverage, it’s so gentile on the skin and since it’s mineral based there’s no worry of clogged pores. To make my eyes pop, I use Bobbi Brown’s gel eyeliner to achieve the perfect cat eye and the Phenomen’Eyes mascara by Givenchy. As for lipstick, it’s either Fresh’s Sugar Rose Lip Treatment for a pretty natural lip or Nars ‘Manhunt’ for a more dramatic red lip.

2. What are your favorite skin care products and why?

I swear by the French line Biologique Recherche for all of my skin care needs. I was introduced to the line by my esthetician and it’s totally transformed my skin. The line takes a really clinical approach to their products as well as only utilizing pure, highly concentrated, and raw ingredients. My fiance sits on the other end of the couch when I do a face mask since there’s no artificial scents to mask the natural ingredients, but it’s so worth it! I also use the Clarisonic Mia, it’s almost like an at home facial!

3. Which beauty products do you splurge on and which ones do you save on?

Anything skin related I splurge on. Your skin is with you for life and you need to take good care of it. I don’t want to look like a weathered leather handbag later in life! As for saves, I stick to drug store nail polishes for the most part.

4. Do you have any favorite DIY beauty products?

It may sound crazy, but I occasionally do wash my hair with beer! Between the shampoo and conditioner, I pour a can of beer over my hair as a rinse. It’s supposed to be good for blondes and good for softening your hair if it’s getting a little dull or fried from styling.

5. Which are your favorite beauty blogs that you read?

There’s only one beauty blog I read http://ommorphiabeautybar.com/ is my one stop reading destination for all things beauty related. Eugenia offers the best tips, reviews, and beauty related info. I have turned into a nail polish junky because of her!

6. What are your favorite hair products and why?

L’Oreal Professionnel and Matrix can do no wrong in my book. Especially the new L’Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil, it’s great for leaving your hair super shiny and silky.

7. What is a beauty product every girl should have in the bathroom cabinet?

A good face wash. Be it tonic, soap, wash, or milk, you need a quality cleanser to get rid of your makeup and the dirt that accumulates during the day to keep your skin healthy and fresh.

8. What is your secret to flawless skin?

Lots of water, good products, sunscreen, and facials. Also, I never tan. I’m that girl on the beach who’s wearing the highest SPF I can get my hands on, in a big hat, oversized sunglasses, and sitting under an umbrella. I might look ridiculous, but like I said…no looking like a leather handbag for me!

9. Who is your favorite beauty icon?

Hands down, Grace Kelly. She’s was a Philadelphia girl like me (I’m originally from the States, I only moved to Montreal a little over a year ago) and always exuded grace, style, beauty, and elegance.

10. What is your best beauty insider tip?

I guess my best beauty insider tip is to take the time to find the right range of products that work best for your skin. It might take a few tries but it’s worth the wait. Flawless skin never goes out of style.

A big thanks to Jessica for taking the time to answer these beauty questions and giving us great tips and advice on how to stay as beautiful as she does. Don’t forget to check out her fabulous blog called Westmount Fashionista HERE!

Life This Week…

Hey Lovelies!

How’s going? This week has been sort of a little weird for me. It has gone by really fast but yet sort of slow. I know it sounds like I’m off me rocker but I’m not. Let me tell you a few of my highlights of this week.

I have been training a lot and really hard this week. Yes, I train hard every week but I really pushed myself this week. People keep telling me I’m crazy, I’ll get burnt out and most of them don’t understand or just don’t care. But training makes me happy! Especially as I had an evaluation with my trainer this week and I found out that I lost 11 pounds so far, however I put on a lot of muscle as well so the training is most def paying off. We also measured all the fat in the body and it has gone done all over quite a bit. Yay, good new for me! Since I know myself pretty well, I know that this will make me train even harder than before and stay more motivated. I needed this ego boost and it came at a perfect time.

making a animated gif

Note the sweat in the pic above after one of my workouts. I don’t care how I look at the gym, I get there and I start training and I don’t stop till I’m done. My motto is, if there is no sweat and you still look pretty when you leave the gym you have not worked out hard enough. Just saying…

I also had a little bit of fun this week with some friends. Just hanging out, having dinner and chatting which most def very needed in my life right now. I’m a very social person and it’s like a punishment for me when I don’t get to see my friends of people in general. I love talking, hence might be the reason I always have something to write, it’s sort like talking in a way.

I have also decided that I’m getting a tattoo in the very near future, like next week hopefully. I have always wanted one but I could never really decide what or where I wanted it. Maybe I was just being scared or not living life to the fullest. Hey, it’s never to late. Once I get it done I will post a pic of what I got and where. I love the spot where the tattoo is going to be. I think it’s very sexy and very private.

Last night I was invited to Ogilvy’s VIP shopping event and hell yeah, of course I went. Me, miss out on a shopping event will probably never happen unless I’m out of town or dying. I went there with one of my best friends, he wasn’t to happy to that I dragged him but he got over it pretty fast since his gf was working the event.

When arriving at Ogilvy’s we were greeted by this Scottish mate, yes we both asked simultaneously if he was wearing underwear almost the second he said “Welcome to Ogilvy’s”. He never answered but we all laughed and I told him I would post his pic on my blog. I never asked for his name so I can’t call you by names Mr (that’s if you a reading this). You can always email me and I will add it. Thanks for being a good sport! : ) I love people that are easy going and love to have a laugh.

Not only was there a lot of discount through out the store but tons of different treats. Anything from bubbly, canapes, sweets, tea to candy. That’s always fun! One hand to browse and one hand to indulge in food and drinks. Can shopping get any better?

It was a festive evening filled of shopping and good friends and you can’t go wrong with that.

Loves it! And it’s only Thursday today, lets see what the rest of the week will bring me…

10 Beauty Insider Tips – Makeup Artist & Eyebrow Specialist Amy from Vic Park Spa

beauty_and_body2

1. What are your makeup staples?

When it comes to makeup staples, every woman has a personal selection based on their problem areas, whether they have short lashes, dark circles, or thinning eyebrows. In my case I have very fair skin and fair lashes so I would have to say Mascara, and bronzer or blush. These products make me feel more confident and ready to take on my day.

2. What are your favorite skin care products and why?

A proper skin care routine is the very first step to achieving flawless skin and makeup. In addition to my eye cream and facial moisturizer I’m currently loving my new anti-oxidant serum from SkinCeuticals. It maintains hydration, and with continuous use it makes your skin radiant and healthy looking. Also, when combined with your daily sunscreen it provides a deeper protection, which is essential in prevention of dark spots.

3. Which beauty products do you splurge on and which ones do you save on?

Definitely splurge on finely crafted skin care products, the more concentrated your product is the better result you will have. You might actually save money in the end since you only need a small amount each time because of its concentrated ingredients. When it comes to saving on a product, swap an expensive mascara that could run your bill up 30 + dollars, for a drugstore brand (think Maybelline, L’Oreal or Rimmel) considering you have to change itevery 3 months (for hygiene). These brands really deliver beautiful lashes that give the more expensive brands a run for their money.

4. Do you have any favorite DIY beauty products?

When it comes to DIY products, I would try making your own concoction for makeup remover, it’s so simple and inexpensive. You can find amazing recipes online.

5. Which are your favorite beauty blogs that you read?

Right now I really love lkisstyle.blogspot.ca, musingofamuse.com and kandeej.com. These ladies offer fun and interesting content and they are continuously being updated which holds my attention long enough to keep going back for more.

6. What are your favorite hair products and why?

I have wreaked havoc on my hair over the years, experimenting with different colors and styles and I have to say my saving grace has been MoroccanOil Intense Hydrating Mask. I’ll do it at least once a week to restore moisture and to reduce the effects of damage. In combination with my Shu Uemura Silk Bloom shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair. They are a little bit pricier than what I would like to spend (about 50$ for each). However, I take full responsibility for all those torturous years on my hair (think platinum, dark and back again…) so I feel it is my duty to maintain its health and keep it looking beautiful.

7. What is a beauty product every girl should have in the bathroom cabinet?

Every girl should have a great exfoliator. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells from the surface, which prevents blackheads from forming and clogging the pores. It also helps your skin care products penetrate easier as there are no dead cells blocking its path. This also applies for the entire body. Try adding an exfoliating glove in the shower right before you wash, you wont believe how smooth your skin will feel, and you will wonder how you ever lived without one. I recommend the Renaissance glove.

8. What is your secret to flawless skin?

Drinks lots and lots of water! Until you have committed to drinking the proper amount of water your body needs every day, it’s hard to imagine how amazing you will feel and look. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed. This is also the most cost-efficient beauty tip I can give!

9. Who is your favorite beauty icon?

For me, I look to women who have aged gracefully by taking care of their body inside and out. A good example of that would be Jennifer Aniston, Raquel Welch, Meryl Streep and Jaclyn Smith. They all look unbelievable and are always elegant and never overdone.

10. What is your best beauty insider tip?

One of my favorites tips is to making your lipstick last all day or night. Start by applying your lipstick with a lip bush then blot, then top it with a fine layer of translucent powder. Repeat about three times and it won’t budge! You may add a little gloss at the end if you would like.

10 Beauty Insider Tips from Christine Elizabeth Laprade behind Vigilant Fashionista

beauty_and_body2

1. What are your makeup staples?

I love to wear a fiery red lipstick on my days off or when I work from home. I don’t care if I’m going jogging or running errands, I’m always rocking my Dior lipstick in Ara Red. I always wear perfume as well.

I love the Guerlain Noir G Refillable mascara. I always go for the blackest, boldest mascara I get get. The worst mascara I’ve ever tried is the infamous Maybelline Great Lash- I always freak out when a make up artist threatens to use it on me LOL! it’s.. oh my gosh, don’t get me started. I just don’t get it.

I recently discovered the Marcelle Gel Waterproof eye makeup remover – it is super effective and I love its fresh texture. I always use a makeup primer to make sure everything stays in place. I currently use Smashbox photo finish. I’m extremely un-loyal when it comes to nail polish however I do own about half the shades from the Sally Hensen Salon Complete Manicure line. I find it’s a great bang for the buck, so to speak.

2. What are your favorite skin care products and why?

Without a doubt my number one pick would be Guerlain Super Aqua-Day Cooling Stick.Whether you’re trying to ease a sunburn or are walking around downtown in blazing weather, this stick will rescue your skin by instantly refreshing it. The results are in: refreshed, glowing skin. Actually feels like rubbing an ice cube across your face. Uplifting, cooling, user-friendly, this stick is my fave beauty essential – ever.

Meet my best friend: Guerlain Orchidée Impériale. It leaves my skin perfectly moisturized ( I have extremely dry skin) and glowing, but not shiny. The texture is just so exquisite, the smell is subtle and the jar let’s face it, looks like a million bucks. It’s intoxicating, addictive, luxe.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or: super not practical as it leaves shimmer everywhere: on  my cardigan, my black schnauzer, the car seat, etc however it’s absolutely muy sexy. I apply it every night before going out. Intoxicating smell as well.

3. Which beauty products do you splurge on and which ones do you save on?

I save on nail polish, as I never keep the same color on for more than 2-3 days.  My nail polish has to perfectly match my outfit  (I’m slightly obsessive-compulsive) I don’t really save on anything else… after all, no one ever regretted looking good! lol

I try to use only ecological and organic products in my house and on my body and I don’t mind paying a little bit more for peace of mind. My shampoo, soap, face cleanser etc are organic. It just makes me feel better. I have yet to discover an amazing eco-friendly mascara though.

4. Do you have any favorite DIY beauty products?

I have 4 jobs, no time to DIY anything lol. My friends make great organic beauty masks and apply coconut oil as a body moisturizer. I’ve seen the results and I can tell you that it works wonders.

5. Which are your favorite beauty blogs that you read?

I don’t read beauty blogs. I like to try the products and see for myself. I feel that we may not have the same standards anyways… I can tell you honestly, and I’m ashamed to say so but I can spend HOURS at Sephora and Holts and try all the products they have. People think I’ve gone MIA as my shopping trips turn into full fledged expeditions.

6. What are your favorite hair products and why?

Moroccain Oil, just like everybody else …
Nexxus Pro Mend for split ends – is a must have and René Furterer Volumea leave in conditioner, perfect for a busy girl like me.

7. What is a beauty product every girl should have in the bathroom cabinet?

A heady perfume.  Be unforgettable.

8. What is your secret to flawless skin?

Diet and hormones are everything. Don’t hesitate to consult a dermatologist when in need.
Personally, I keep my skin moisturized as it’s really dry, and I just use the right products according to my skin type. I also put on scads of lip balm to keep m y lips from chapping. Chapped lips are so not chic

9. Who is your favorite beauty icon?

I like Dita Von Teese. Classy, mysterious, fiercely feminine and seductive, she always looks immaculate. I like old world glamour.

10. What is your best beauty insider tip?

Getting plastic surgery always, always always shows. Women, it won’t make you look younger – it’ll make you look weirder. Get non invasive treatments such as IPL photo-facial laser treatments instead: it makes your skin look tighter and stimulates the cell turnover.

LOCKS of LOVE – Braided Manes

There are many different styles to wear your lovely locks but lately I have been loving all kinds of different braids. It’s easy, looks nice and can be worn for all kinds of occasions depending of what kind of braid you choose to do. Personally, I like braids because I go to the gym often and I don’t like to wash my hair everyday since it dries and damages it more the more you wash it. So a braid is perfect, since it gives you me a great look without too much effort and I can change it up every day. Here is some braid inspiration for all of you.

Hell Of A Workout!

Hey there Lovelies!

How are you on this cold and rainy Monday? When woke up this morning, looked outside and saw the misery of weather that mother nature brought us I would have loved to curl up and stayed in bed for the rest of the morning. However, I sprinted out of bed (it was all or nothing), threw on my gym clothes and headed to Vic Park gym for some of my favorite classes of the week.  I LOVE the 9.00 am class which is taught by Karine. She is the master of working your butt and abs. Basically you will have buns of steel and a six-pack after attending a few of her classes, perfect for summer coming up. What I love about her classes is that she always changes up her routine. It’s always a challenge but lots of fun and I always leave this class satisfied knowing that I just did an awesome workout. I also really like that Karine pushes everyone in her class to their max. If you pretend that you don’t have anymore energy she will spot you wherever you are in the room and tell you to keep going and to push harder. I LOVE that! So if you want to have buns of steel and some gorgeous abs this is the class to come and try out.

After Karines class I decided to stay for the TRX class with Geraldine which is one of my absolute favorite classes. I like it because TRX is very new to me and it’s quite a challenge since you are using your own body weight and you decide how hard you want to workout. Geraldine is another AMAZING trainer at Vic Park and she will not let you slack off during one of her classes which yet again I love. Today, we did like a trillion different versions of squats. At one point I was really tired and decided to not use my strength to my full potential when doing the squats but got caught and got pushed even harder. You slack off, you most def pay for it. Ha! ha!

I’m not sure which other gyms in the city offer TRX group classes so I think you should come on down to Vic Park and try a TRX class if you have never tried one. It really works all the muscles in your body, the ones you knew you had and the ones you never thought even existed. Trust me, I know! What I also like about Geraldine is that each class that she teaches she will start of by asking everyone what they want to work-out. She does not have her own set training program that she does over and over again. She literally listens to the people in her class and then teaches her class according to the requests that were made.

In conclusion I just want to say that I had an AMAZING workout this morning all thanks to Vic Park, the best gym in Montreal!

LOCKS of LOVE -I’ve Got The ColorBug

Hey Lovelies!

How are you? I was going out for dinner last night with a bunch of friends and needed to spice up my outfit a little. It was, rainy, windy, gloomy outside and I was going to wear a black outfit. Since most of you know I love color so I had to add some to my look. What better way then doing so with my hair. I’ve been raving about pink her for quite some time now and between being a little scared and a little lazy I’ve procrastinated for quite some time. However, last night I dyed my hair pink, ombre style and I absolutely love it!!!!

What do you think? Do you like it? Well, if you do I will tell you how I did it and how you can do it too. This seems to be the latest trend for this summer and spring.

Ombre hair is the trend that won’t stop trending. However, it has now gone from just natural shades to more fun pastel and bright colors. Now colored ombre hair has become a mainstream trend since Lauren Conrad dyed her tips.

Kevin Murphy was ahead of the game when he tinted the beautiful Abbey Lee for this Vogue shoot last year and now he has commercially released his hair pigments. Color Bug is like a type of shadow for your hair, allowing you to get in on the ombre hair trend but without having to commit. Yes, ladies this color washes out when you decide to wash your hair which I think is the most amazing part about it.

Color Bug is available in pink, purple and orange and Kevin Murphy shows you how easy it is to use in this video here. So is it really that easy in real life. I wanted to try it out so I ordered the pink colorbug sine I love pink.

Color Bug application – Tip: wear gloves or wash your hands quickly!

If you have disposable gloves then start by putting them on because you’ll hands will get a little dirty. I didn’t have any so I just made sure to wash my hands right after I applied the color and it was fine the color washed right of.

You can apply the color of your choice quite lightly for a washed out look or keep adding more for a vibrant pink look. Gently rub the colour through the ends of your hair for an even finish. I thought it would be harder to apply but it took to my hair really easily. I picked random strands of hair and just applied the color. I played around with it till I liked the result. Since it comes in a solid powder form like an over-sized eye shadow I sprayed some hair spray on at the end to make the color stick.

Color Bug does exactly what it says on the box. It’s a bit messy but loads of fun and a great way to dip your hair into the ombre trend without having to commit. You can use one color or mix the different colors, let your creativity run wild.

You can find them at any salon that carries Kevin Murphy (using the salon locator on their website http://www.kevinmurphy.com.au or if you don’t have any nearby, they are available on eBay from various trusty sellers here. They come in pink, orange and purple. I think the orange one would be my next choice.

Let me know what you think and if you would try it out or not? If you do posts some pics I would love to see the different results and ways it can be done!
